The Creation of the RDC Collection

The owner of the RDC Collection commissioned Samuel S. Marco to create all of the pieces over a 20-year period, from 1994 through 2014. The owner’s assistant was a relative of Marco and introduced them in 1992. He saw Marco’s smaller pieces and commissioned him to carve two blue marlins, which were eventually stolen during the war. Other pieces were stolen and recovered. For the next 20 years, Marco created all of these extraordinary carvings in this collection, some taking up to a year to complete. Many were on display at what is now the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Sierra Leone until the owner transported them to Texas.
